Most of Phillipians deals with practical issues of Christian living rather than with Christian beliefs as such. As in all Paul’s letters, however, what he says as instructions about discipleship is related to things at the heart of the Christian faith, such as the centrality of the cross, the work of the Spirit and the Christian hope. There are sections, however, where strong and clear statements are made about the person of Christ and about the way of salvation in Christ. The facts of Jesus being of the very nature of God and yet becoming truly and fully human are unambiguously stated.
