As the heading suggests, the mid-week children’s work went through so many changes during the year that even those of us who are still young find it difficult to remember what it’s called, what day it’s on, where we left our keys, who that nice young lady giving us tea is,
Anyway, the Spring half-term break saw the merger of Bumblebees (P1-P3) and Monday Club (P4-P7) to form what was temporarily called Kids Club. This combined group caters for P1-P6, with the P7 joining Thursday Club. The combined meeting took leaders from both groups, and we continue to have the help of a few non-Niddrie folk as well as some of the interns. After the Summer holidays the children voted on a new name and 126 Club (as in P1 to P6, get it?) came out top.
Since the merger we’ve averaged 25 children attending each week. We used materials called Fusion, though these were generally adapted quite a bit for use with non-church children. Topics covered have included following Jesus, mountains of the Bible (!), David, daft ideas, Elijah, Noah and Jonah. Discipline has been good and there have been several evenings where the children have been asking really good questions. The evenings also feature craft or games, snack time, singing such great old hymns as “You can’t get to heaven on the back of a camel” and Brucey’s favourite Play Your Cards Right quiz.
Please continue to pray that God’s word will reach these youngsters.
